Wrong Side Of The Tracks

It was time to move again. Destination...Jasper. We stopped by the small town of Valemount with the signboard of "Swiss Bakery" beckoning us to stop for lunch. This was a feat with the lure of several chinese and West Japanese Korean tempting us...The bakery proved tricky to find as we were on the wrong side of the railway! However, it was definitely worth the wait as the food was hearty, delicious and very reasonably priced. We enjoyed lunch so much that we bought several of their pastries for breakfast the next day.

Found you!

Finally crossing over into neighbouring Alberta

Jasper is a pretty mountain town located within Jasper National Park, the largest National Park in the Canadian Rockies. After just barely squeezing our car into the very low carpark of our hotel, we set out to walk the Discovery trail around the town followed by dinner. It was another hot day, but we foolishly assumed that the weather would cool down. We were wrong! By the time we returned back to our rooms after dinner, it was still just as bright and just as hot as when we left despite it being 8pm!

It took a while for us to find the Discovery Trail. It must have been the heat as it seemed quite obvious but we just couldn't find it! It turned out to be just on the other side of the road that we were walking on. Did I mention that it was hot?!? We stopped by for ice-cream to motivate the children. It didn't last long...as we recommenced upon the trail, they soon recommenced their complaints. Jonah was convinced that he was severely dehydrated and would die if he kept walking. Lara was certain that she was being bitten alive by bugs. Elliot appeared to have a heat delirium sending him into hyperactivity.

On account of everyone's wilting status, we decided to shorten the walk and cut back into town to have dinner. A short stop for breakfast provisions (including a giant box of blueberries for $5!) ended our day.

Wonderful view of the town from our room window

Our little Canada Day purchase turned out to be super handy, keeping our fruit and water cold
